A passion driven by founder, Devan Kaufman, and his lifelong appreciation for architecture, quality craftsmanship, and excellent customer service.
Whether he and his staff are transforming a dated kitchen, helping homeowners create a luxurious master suite or renovating the family bathroom, they’re not satisfied with anything less than the best. The company has extensive Design-Build experience and has remodeled kitchens, master suites, bathrooms, entire houses, covered porches and home exteriors, in addition to finishing basements and building additions for homeowners throughout the greater Des Moines area.
Devan devotes his personal appreciation for fine design to each Kaufman Construction project. Our design team works closely to finalize each detail before construction begins. Once the final plans are complete, they are turned over to skilled craftsmen who share the same passion, integrity, and commitment to quality construction. Thanks to their dedication, Kaufman Construction consistently delivers projects that are on time, on budget, and exceed client expectations.
Our clients were the inspiration behind KC Handyman, a division of Kaufman Construction formed in 2004. In some industries, you never hear from your clients again once a job is finished. Fortunately, that wasn’t our experience. Our clients stayed in touch with us long after their remodeling projects were completed. In fact, many of them trusted us to tackle other jobs in their homes, ranging from repairing leaky roofs to installing new kitchen cabinets and countertops.
We realized that it made sense to start a service that offered an alternative to the Design-Build, fixed price approach offered by Kaufman Construction. KC Handyman was created to handle smaller projects that require skill and craftsmanship but don’t need the same oversight as a major renovation.
The talented handymen who work for KC Handyman take care of large and small repairs, maintenance and renovation projects for homeowners and businesses. Clients pay an hourly rate and are responsible for directing the work of the handymen.
Randy oversees all of the Design Build production and makes sure things are running smoothly. His favorite part about working at Kaufman Construction is being able to experience the appreciation of a satisfied customer after the hard work put into a project.
Randy always wanted to be an electrician and even started wiring telephones in his childhood home at the age of 10. His passion to create and bring an idea from concept to reality is what led him to the construction field.
When Randy isn’t in the office you can find him spending time with his family or enjoying his hobbies of woodworking, metalworking and horseback riding. If Randy won the lottery, he would be in his workshop all day making keepsake pieces for individuals unable to get them.
Daryl builds relationships with clients, estimates all projects, and monitors the quality of work/craftsmanship for KC Handyman.
Watching his uncle build a deck off the second floor for his grandma is what drew him to the construction field. He thought it was really cool!
Daryl's first job was a dishwasher at Poppin' Fresh Pies where he was able to take home pies not bought that night. One time, he got to take six pies home and give them to his girlfriend and parents.
If he could time travel, he would go 1000 years forward to see if we're traveling to other planets. He believes that people need to laugh! Life is short, be happy!
Haden makes sure that all the Design Build projects have the supplies and materials needed. He enjoys the family-like atmosphere of working at Kaufman Construction...and the dogs!
Haden’s favorite food is anything Italian, so of course, if he could spend a week anywhere in the world, he would choose Rome.
In his free time, Haden likes to build models, collect comics, and go bow hunting. You can also find him cheering on his favorite team, the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, with his family.
Grant helps clients envision their projects by creating computer generated designs. His favorite thing about working at Kaufman Construction is being valued and helping his team to his fullest capability.
On the weekends you can find Grant longboarding or riding other board-like things, making art, reading or chilling with his family. If he could go anywhere for a week it would be to a quiet lake side resort that served Teriyaki Chicken.
Andrew works as a Handyman doing maintenance and repairs.
Andrew’s favorite things about working at Kaufman Construction is learning and getting to know the business more. He also likes to work with people who are highly skilled and knowledgeable.
Growing up Andrew’s favorite sport to play and watch was football, specifically the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved it so much he wanted to be a football player when he grew up and idolized Tony Gonzalez.
If he won the lottery, he would relive a childhood trip to Isla Mujeres, Mexico with his family, buy a house and pay off his student loans.
Kyle performs all aspects of construction throughout the construction process. He works with other carpenters with tool, supply, and task management to get the project completed in a timely manner.
His favorite part about working at Kaufman Construction is the atmosphere the other team members bring to the jobs. Kyle was drawn to the construction field because his dad was a realtor and he grew up fixing houses with him. His first job was working as an auto tire technician.
If money was no object, Kyle would spend time in his workshop and with his family all day. His daughters being silly is what makes him laugh the most and Kyle's favorite food is any kind of burger.
Dave performs all aspects of construction throughout the construction process. He works with other carpenters with tool, supply, and task management to get the project completed in a timely manner.

Ben works as a Carpenter helping with the demo and build of all Design/Build projects.
Ben's favorite part about working at Kaufman Construction is the hands-on experience he is getting.
If Ben isn't at work, you can find him fishing. If he were to win the lottery, he would buy a new truck and then save the rest. His favorite sport is wrestling.
Chesney makes sure that people are paying attention to every little detail. He enjoys spending his weekend playing fetch at the lake and making sure no food gets left behind.
After a long day making sure the office staff and guests are happy, Ollie likes to relax by playing at the dog park or enjoying a nice juicy porkchop.
When he isn't overseeing all current pawjects, you can find Nash lounging by the lake or playing with his favorite toy.
